Every mass shooting brings out the same anger and heartbreak and quickly spirals into a viscious fight over gun control and mental health.
The same arguments from all sides falling on deaf ears and nothing ever changes.
Ever.
And let’s be honest about this. There is no simple solution.
There is no quick answer.
No snapping of fingers to make the issue go away.
If we truly want to stop elementary school children from being blown away while studying the times tables, then we need to be honest and open and acknowledge everything that needs to change.
Change withing our society, within ourselves, within our government.
And none of it will happen right away.
But I know a place we can start.
Don’t vote Republican.
At all. On any level.
Oh boy, here’s the part where you keep scrolling, or your eyes roll into your brain, or you prepare your rage filled reply.
But hear me out.
Who has stood against any gun control at all?
The Republican Party.
But it’s about mental health and healthcare, you say.
Ok.
Who complained about our pre-Obama healthcare, did nothing to change it, then fought ObamaCare every step of the way, then spent years trying to repeal it, sabotage it, destroy it, then when given the chance to fix it, did absolutely nothing?
Yep, the Republican Party.
Every step of the way, resistance to change is from the Republican Party.
So don’t vote for them.
Dont vote for them until the candidates they produce show they have evolved from the current state of their Party.
A Party who would hold countless hours of investigation into Benghazi but fights even a second of investigation into an attack on our own Capitol.
A Party who wants to force a 13 year old rape victim to have an unwanted child yet won’t allow that same 13 year old to adopt a child because she is not ready.
A Party who would rather close the borders of a country founded on immigrants rather than fix the immigration system.
A Party who will scare you with anything just so they can get votes.
They voted against a bill to help ease the baby formula problem.
The Republican governor of Texas blocked supply trucks at the border, costing millions, just so he could blame the democrats for a supply issue.
The Republican Party is loyal to themselves only.
They have turned their backs on America.
And dont “whatabout” the Democrats. They are flawed as well.
But they havent blocked gun control. They fought to fix our healthcare system. They fight for that 13 year old rape victim.
An entire classroom of 4th graders were just massacred and there is only one party blocking anything to stop it from happening again.
So if we want change. If we want anything to be fixed.
Don’t vote Republican.
Stopping mass shootings is a long, difficult process that will take real soul searching.
But we can’t move forward if we dont cut loose the anchor holding us down.
